the story behind it

Not a guide.
A visual diary.

What's Up In is an alternative travel and urban culture zine that bypasses the glossy, corporate tourist traps to capture the real, gritty heartbeat of a city. No listicles, no "10 best brunches," no algorithm deciding what you should see. Just one neighbourhood at a time, on foot, on film.

What we believe

01

Shot on film, always

Thirty-six chances a roll, eighty cents each. You look before you shoot, and the blur stays in.

02

The best parts are off-grid

Found by accident, photographed before we could talk ourselves out of it. No sponsored placements.

03

Handmade, not templated

Every page laid out by hand — tape, scribbles, halftone, the works. It should feel like a scrapbook, not a brochure.

04

Quarterly, on purpose

Four cities a year. Slow enough to actually explore each one properly before moving to the next.

Who's behind it

Raghav Chandra — design student, photographer, and the person carrying the tote bag full of film. Based in Toronto. Runs on patio coffee and free refills. Will pet every shop cat, no exceptions.
